Holy Family purpose built, double-unit Nursery School was opened in 1977. The Nursery School is bright and spacious and has an extensive playground area, including a garden, which is fully enclosed, thus the children enjoy safe and tranquil surroundings.

The Nursery School is staffed by a dedicated, committed, enthusiastic team of professional teachers and assistants who realise and value the importance of play in a child’s development.

The Nursery School is a Catholic Maintained School and the members of staff are fully committed to the aims of Catholic education and to fostering a Catholic ethos. Consequently, each child is respected as a unique and precious human being. A broad and balanced curriculum is provided so that the individual learning styles of the children are catered for and each can learn at his/her own pace and develop their full potential – spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.

Within a caring, stimulating, happy environment, the staff strive to foster strong links between home and school and thus ensure a firm partnership between parents, teachers, assistants, children and the parish community in order to maximise the development of each child.

The support and co-operation of parents is immeasurable and parents are encouraged to become involved in the education of their child. To this end, they are welcome to come into the playroom at the beginning and end of each session and they are informed through a monthly newsletter of themes and activities. Throughout the year there are opportunities for parental involvement in fund-raising events, informal gatherings and outings. In addition we invite people from the local community to visit the school – these may include Nurse, Doctor, Dental Nurse, Road Safety Officer, Fireman, representatives from the Children’s Hospice and Wild Life Trust. Each year the children attend Saltos Gymnasium for a six week course in gymnastics. Other activities include visits to the theatre, Holy Family Primary School and St. Thérèse of Lisieux Primary School.

There are two sessions. A child must be 3 years old before he/she can attend the play group.
The morning session, which is funded by the BELB, for children in their pre-school year, begins at 9.00am and finishes at 12 noon.
Application forms, which can be obtained from the Staff of the play group or from the Parish Office, should be completed and returned before a closing date in May of the year of admission.
The afternoon session, which begins at 12.30pm and finishes at 3.00pm is for children who are in their pre-nursery year.

The aims of the Parents and Toddlers Groups are ~

1. to give parents an opportunity to socialise
2. to give toddlers an opportunity to interact with each other and to use a variety of play materials
